Wedding Weekend- Part 3

Ah Saturday. The day before the big day. Saturday morning we woke up early to a beautiful sunny day. It was morning of our 5k that we had decided to organize. This was one of my favorite things about the weekend and we actually did quite a bit of preparing for it. The idea of having some "events" during a wedding weekend occurred to me after reading a lot blogs and magazines of couples hosting brunches, lobster bakes, afternoon teas, etc. My family and I have become such big runners, that I knew the weekend of the wedding I would be out getting a run in at some point with someone. Running helps me release all my stress, and is so therapeutic for me, I knew I had to go before the wedding to help me feel my best and get out my nervous energy. Hosting a 5K in my favorite place to run just seemed like a great idea!

Getting ready for the run!

my Aunt and cousin from NC

lil baby ready to run too
We basically mapped out the course online and printed information and directions for guests in our invitations. We wanted to have something for those participating, so we decided to have a breakfast after. We choose to keep it simple and got bagels, juices, water, muffins, and fruit for an easy picnic after the run. I was so excited about this, that we didn't care if 5 people came or 25. We ended up having such a positive response from our guest! Kyle used this run as motivation for him to pick up running more and train for the 5k. He has run in some races in the past, but usually doesn't train, will run races on the day of, and hate them because he felt crappy doing it. For our 5K, he wanted to feel good and since he is super competitive, he wanted to be able to beat a lot of his friends. We also heard from other people how this run was helping push them to get out and exercise to prepare. It made me so happy that so many guests were excited about it and actually exercising more because of it!

My dad and I run together pretty often when I am home, and especially in Island Heights where the run would be taking place. On some of our runs we started to get ideas about different things we could do to make it feel more like a real race. We were making some wooden wedding signs for our venue, and just had the idea to make a few mile marker signs using the same wood. My dad cut and put together our signs, and I painted the miles and words using stencils I got at the store. They came out so cute and really added a unique and special touch to our event. We still have them in our backyard!
my favorite place to stretch after running

I also decided that Kyle and I were going to wear bride and groom attire. I had been gifted a white bridal tank top, which I realized would be perfect for the race! I then got Kyle a black t-shirt and used stencils to create a groom shirt. It was a little corny, but I thought it was cute and we never would be able to get to wear them again. I loved how they came out, and we definitely looked like the main event of the weekend. :)

The run was fantastic. It was such a beautiful morning, it was so nice to get some exercise in! My Dad and I ran together -- let's just say we had a pretty good pace going haha. The Lockwood's get competitive. Once I finished, I ran back along the course to cheer others on. Everyone did so well! Kyle was flying and looked so good, I was so proud of him! We all gathered near the water at the end of the race. My Aunt from North Carolina is training to be a yoga instructor, so she lead a 20 minute post-run yoga session after. It was such a cool thing to be a part of. The sun was shining, a breeze was blowing, and we were right on the water. It was so special for my aunt to be a part of this weekend and for my family to come together to do yoga! It was a very magical moment. I was so so happy with how our event turned out!

The crew at the race, minus the Cohens!

After our workouts and breakfast, Kyle and I finished our last minute things and then went over to the beach for a few hours. It was nice to just go relax and feel like a normal Saturday. On the way home, we stopped for ice cream. :) Later in the evening, the boys drove up all of the cars to the hotel so that we could have rides home the morning after the wedding, and we had a small bbq for those who were in the area. So many great things and memories had happened already and the excitement for the next day could be felt in the air.

Wedding Weekend- Part 2

Friday morning really felt like the craziness of the weekend began. We started the day off by going to the nail saloon to get manicure and pedicures. Three of my bridesmaids came, as well as my mom and godmother. We brought champagne and orange juice into the nail place with us and had mimosas while we got pampered. It definitely was fun! I also ended up getting a gel manicure which I've never gotten before. It was such a good idea because it lasted almost 3 weeks and I had no chips or issues on the wedding day. Woot!

Although I tried to be very relaxed and calm, I was a little anxious that morning. I think because the weather was a little more weird than predicted, we did take a long time in the saloon, and I had last minute errands to run. All I really wanted to do all day was go to the beach and do some meditation/relaxing after the saloon. I can't believe I really thought I would have time to do that- haha. No matter what I did though, I feel like I would probably feel a little anxious that day. It was the last official day to run around and finish things before the rehearsal dinner/wedding morning and day. My mom and I went to pick up my dress and veil, Kyle and I had to drop things off at the restaurant for dinner, and we had to pick up the alcohol and last minute things for the trolley and mornings. I even had to be on the phone with the photographer and vendors making some last minute changes. We ended up finishing out errands and hanging out by the pool at my house. My brother made us lunch. Everyone was so helpful and trying to do whatever they could to help keep my stress level low. It was really really sweet. Chilling in the pool and backyard for a few hours felt so normal which helped both Kyle and I keep calm and happy.
Friday night was our rehearsal dinner! It was so so surreal to when we were getting dressed for this event. We were so excited to be having it at this amazing restaurant in our town that cooked using organic foods in season. We had our own private room and entrance to the restaurant which was felt very special. We brought it our own beer and wine and it was nice to be able to select some of our favorite things. We also were so excited to give our our gifts to the bridal party! It was so much fun to have the closest 35 people in our lives in one room. The food was so so good too- we had family style apps of calamari, spring rolls, and pasta. The entree menu had 5 different things on it that our guests got to choose. Most people got the steak and lobster cakes, which were so so good. People said such good things about the food.!

One of my favorite things about the night was the slide show we got to show. As soon as we got engaged, I started putting together a slide show set to music on my mac. It quickly became one of my favorite things to do, and I spent hours searching through photos and changing the look and music to perfect it. I went through our high school photos when we were first dating and scanned them into the computer. I had always wanted to show this at our rehearsal dinner, even when I made it so long ago, I just wasn't sure of the logistics. Someone that I know who did this in the past was able to bring in a tv and projector from their classroom, which we obviously couldn't do. Luckily, our friend was able to bring in a pretty large flat screen tv and Kyle being the computer savvy person that he is was able to hook up my computer. It was 14 minutes long, but it was so fun to see all of our photos and experiences from the past 11 years -- I think most of our friends enjoyed it as well since they have been around for most of our relationship too. <3
When the time came to give our speeches and hand out our gifts, Kyle got very nervous. I kind of pulled him aside and just told him to thank people from the heart and he could make it short and sweet. He went first and said the sweetest little speech and didn't seem nervous at all. The guys loved their beers and gifts. When it was my turn, I started speaking and just lost it. I did not think I was going to cry all, but at that moment everything just hit me. The weekend was finally here. All of my best friends were in front of me, and had done so much for Kyle and I the past few months. How could I possibly say thank you and tell them how much they meant to me in just a few worlds. Our whole lives had been leading up to this weekend and I just got emotional. I caught myself a little off guard, but it was real and sincere and I think my friends and family could tell how I felt. Overall, it was an amazing night with more amazing food and we just were so happy to be with everyone!

Wedding Weekend- Part 1

Our wedding weekend was the most epic, best weekend of my entire life. Yes, it was very hectic leading up to our wedding day, and yes, I was still pretty stressed out a few days before the wedding. But when it came down to the actual days with events, it was all smooth sailing and enjoyment. I am so happy with how everything turned out with us having a "wedding weekend". The reason we did our rehearsal dinner on Friday, had an activity Saturday, and got married Sunday was so that after the years of planning and countless hours of crafting and organizing, we could make our special time last as long as possible. While it did go by quickly, I don't feel like we ever had the feeling of omg all that planning for one day. We were able to be with each other and our friends and family for multiple days, and had so many laughs, happy times, and great memories.
To start our weekend weekend, Thursday was our rehearsal dinner at the winery. We didn't necessarily plan this, but the winery only does rehearsals on Thursdays because they hold other events. It worked out great and got the weekend off to an exciting start. It was so beautiful at the winery that night, we could only hope our wedding day would be the same. Most of our bridal party that came had never been to the vineyard so it made us happy to see how excited they were and how pretty they thought the venue was. We also got to meet with our day of wedding coordinator, Eileen, who was amazinggg and very similar to my mom. It was a huge relief for both me and my mom because she really took control and told us all the details that she would be taking care of the day of. I don't think my mom realized how much she would be doing and I seriously saw my mom relax a little more that night. She was the best!

Me and Katie Gal at our rehearsal :)

I asked Lora to stay next to me at our ceremony

It was nice to be able to drink wine during the rehearsal as well. Everyone was hanging out and relaxed. It was kind of surreal to go through the actual motion of the ceremony though, realizing that we would be doing this in just two days and everything was actually happening. Practicing walking down the aisle with my Dad gave me butterflies. :) After the rehearsal my parents were amazing and wanted to take everyone out to dinner at Xina. We had not expected this at all, and were so happy to go out and officially start the weekend celebrations! Plus sushi at Xina is amazing. It was a great evening and it made the excitement officially begin!

Heaven on Earth

It's been 1 month since I married my love and had the BEST day of my life. I cannot really even put into words how amazing our wedding day (and wedding weekend) was. I never knew I could feel that much love, joy and pure happiness in one day. I felt like I could absolutely burst with sunshine. I've heard people talk in movies and real life about feeling like they were in a bubble, and no one else was in the room but the two of them. I have never experienced that more than when I walked down the aisle and stood along side Kyle at our wedding ceremony. It truly was like walking into a piece of heaven and getting to stay there in its amazing beauty for the 20 minutes of our ceremony. I never knew I could have so much love and admiration for one man. I honestly could go on and on. Even a month away, I still am feeling the buzz and true love from that day! XoXo
Our honeymoon was also the most amazing vacation I've ever been on. Besides the amazing food, surroundings and adventures, I feel like this was the best two weeks ever because Kyle and I felt truly spiritually connected on another level more than we've ever been. Even though we've been dating each other for about 12 years and live together, I still felt we grew even closer over the past 2 weeks and took a HUGE step forward in our relationship. I didn't even know that was possible. Our honeymoon was the definition of pure bliss and truly just being in love and enjoying each other. I will never forget each and every day of our time in Greece (especially not because I have all the pictures to help me) and the way I would feel when I would wake up and look at my husband and realize that I wasn't dreaming.
I will go into details about our wedding in another post, but today I just wanted to acknowledge the fact that it's been 1 month since my world was changed, and I could not be any more happy than I am right now. I really never knew I could be this happy and content, and let me tell you, LIFE IS GOOD. :) I am head over heels in love with my husband! I am just embracing every day and I can't wait to see what the next month brings us. <3 <3 Love you Kyle.

Best Bachelorette Ever.

My friends are amazing. Maybe hands down the best friends ever. My bridesmaids threw me my bachelorette party a few weekends ago, and I think I am still glowing from it. I have not hung out with all of my favorite girlfriends in one place, in a very, very long time and we had just an amazing weekend in OCMD.
I told my friends in general that I wanted to do a beach weekend away where we could just hang out, enjoy each others company, and go out and get a little wild. It was exactly that. :)

A few of us went down early Friday morning and took the ferry from NJ to Delaware to break up the ride. It was such a good idea, because we all got to get out of the car, relax, have some bloody mary's and watch dolphins. When we got to Delaware, it was then only a 45 minute drive to OC. Beats a 4-5 hour drive to me any day! It was raining when we checked into the hotel, so we decided to go for lunch and drinks at a bar near by. It was 2pm and probably filled with about 5 other bachelorette parties -- insane! It was like that the rest of the weekend, every where you turned there was another bachelorette party wearing ridiculous outfits and being crazy. In some ways I was like oh boy, but then it also made me think we must of picked a really fun spot!

On the ferry having our morning cocktails!

Cake pops Kerry and her sister made :)

Props for everyone!

Friday night consisted of going out to a fancy dinner with wine drinking and good conversation to be had by everyone. We really got to just enjoy our food and bond a little bit more. After dinner we just had to go downstairs to where the party was going on, and we all danced and partied until probably 2am. We were serious dance machines. So much fun and such good food and music!

Dinner with a view of the bay!

Saturday morning the girls surprised me with a nice little breakfast set up, and then I was just told to put on my bathing suit and sports clothes..I was a little confused of the combo, but we ended up going to a private stand up paddle board yoga class! How cool is that!!! I love going to yoga and I love love paddleboarding, even though I don't get to do it that much. It was crazy that they found a class that incorporated both and it was such a fun experience with everyone. It was a beautiful day out, and we all got to experience something new together; falling into the water during twists, yelling out random things on the board, laughing the entire time. I had such a blast and I love my friends for knowing me so well!

Amazing morning and activity!

loving life

After paddle boarding we went up to the beach for a few hours and just relaxed and hung out. Not something we all get to do with each other very often! The beach that day was perfect and the water was crazy warm, so we had a good time getting sun kissed and sandy before heading out to the infamous Seacrets bar for another crazy night.

Seacrets is like going to an amusement park for drinking. You have to walk through lines and ones of those metal wheel thingys to get in. There are about 16 different bars there, and all of them are very different. There was a reggae stage, a smaller stage for a band, bars on the sand, bars inside, a giant bouncy dance floor inside with a huge stage -it was crazy. I had been there before in college, and while I had a really good time there, it's just a little bit overwhelming and too much. I felt like Friday night we were more close knit and together so I ended up liking that a little more, even though I did have a blast on Saturday. People are just very very drunk at all times of day/night at secrets.
Dock at Secrets!

Jelly Fishing with Amy

I cannot say thank you enough to my friends for planning this for me! It's overwhelming to be the center of attention in your group of friends. I felt like they could not have known me better though, and we all could not have had a more fun time! Everyone got along great and it was a beautiful weekend. One that I will never forget!! THANK YOU!

"Life without Love is like a Year without Summer"

One of my best friends got married June 22! She had an amazing destination wedding in Cancun, and she said it was everything she dreamed of and more. One really great thing that she said to me that I hadn't really thought of with destination weddings was that from the time they go there until then time they left, they were celebrating her wedding. So basically she had one big giant celebration for 10 days! That sounds so so fun, considering you wait for your big day for months, maybe even years, and it comes and goes in an instant. I was so happy for her, and she looked absolutely stunning on her wedding day and more importantly glowing from head to toe with pure joy!

I had a very hard time telling Jen than Kyle and I couldn't afford to come to her wedding. The big thing I wanted her to know was that if there was any possible way for us to make it there, we would have. It is such a HUGE day in her life, and I really do regret not being there by her side.

We both however, did small gestures to still make us feel like we were together. Kerry and I sent Jen letters on the morning of her wedding and had them delivered to her suite with breakfast and mimosas. She said the letters made her cry, and while that was not our goal of writing them, it was out goal to make her feel like we were 100% thinking about her that day and were with her in spirit. Jen and Erich then gave us a shout out after they tied the knot on a live-stream from Cancun. I was crying from the minute she walked down the aisle, so needless to say, I kind of lost it during the shout out. I think they overall message of this is that Jen and I both cherish our friendship with each other so much. Congratulations Jen & Erich, I could not be more happy for the both of you!!!

She looks so stunning and they both are beaming!!

Beautiful wedding- love the bridesmaids colors.

Showered with Love (More like Down-Poured!)

A few weeks ago was my wedding shower! It wasn't a total "surprise" for me, as I basically helped pick out the date so I could make sure it fit in with my boards prep schedule and I would enjoy the day stress free (can I tell you how much I cannot wait until I can stop taking exams!!!). Anyways, so I knew about the date, but not really other details until my mom slipped up a few times. I was very excited to have it as my godparents house, as I knew if it was a nice day, we could be outside on the deck and enjoy the sunshine, allowing everyone to mix and mingle. The shower was absolutely amazing! It really was exactly what I would picture for me. Sangria on the deck, delicious foods, no pressure to sit at a certain table, allowing everyone to mix and mingle indoors and out. It was such a lovely day.

My mom and godmother really went over the top. My mom is so organized and a great party planner, and she did not hold back for this one. They picked out such great food and all the little details from the hydrangeas on the tables, to the "soon to be Mrs sign" were so cute (which is now hanging in our living room haha). My favorite thing was watching my mom run to wait by the door when guests were leaving so she could say good bye and give our her favors- she's amazing! My bridesmaids too really went over the top. They picked out a group gift for us, and were able to get us all of our dishes and flatware, which is amazing! They also came up with some great games and entertainment. They asked Kyle questions, and filmed his response prior to the shower. At the shower they asked me the same questions and I had to guess what Kyle would say, and then they played back his response. It was super fun and cute, and made me feel like Kyle was there as well. They also make me this amazing book of all our memories throughout the years, with empty pages to fill with the wedding memories. Love them all!

Beautiful cake made by my future brother-in-law!

Amazing cupcakes - salted caramel is my fav.

beautiful arrangements

love it!

Wine wishing well with a sign made by my bridesmaid!

yes please!
I never realized how overwhelming it could feel to have an entire party thrown to give you gifts and love in preparation for your marriage. I've obviously had parties in my honor- graduation, birthdays, etc, but this somehow felt completely different. I guess because at those kind of parties, you aren't sitting in a room having ~60 woman watch you open gifts! The other parties also involved kegs of beer, the pool or BBQs. This felt much more "sophisticated", especially having some relatives there that I don't see too often and I want to make a good impression with. I never imagined that I would receive so man gifts! We seriously got everything we could wish or ask for and more. People are so generous and it really made me feel super loved. Although we now feel like we just outgrew our apartment haha! Getting so much amazing things for the future definitely makes you start thinking about a house..One step at a time I suppose! We cannot wait to see all the joy that the rest of the summer will bring and for our September day! XoXo

Bridesmaids! (minus one)

One of my personal gifts that was amazing!

The lovely hostesses! (even though they never can keep their eyes open lol

Nacho Average Bachelorette

So last weekend I had such an amazing time at my great friend Jen's shower and bachelorette party. It's been almost 2 maybe 3? (yikes) years since I have been to a bachelorette party, and I forgot just how much fun they are. I knew it would be a fun night, but really whenever you have a weekend with just your close girlfriends, cracking up at everything, reminiscing about past things, and just genuinely being silly and goofy -- it just uplifts your spirits more than you realize. With our busy and hectic lives going on and people not living in the same city, it's so hard to see some of your friends. Weekends like this past one, really emphasize for me the importance of continuing to make the effort to stay in touch with you friends, and to soak up all those moments when you are together. While we are all happy in our lives and doing great things, sometimes I do get a little nostalgic about not living a few houses away and being able to just pop in about anything. My girlfriends are the best!

Bride to be, rocking the sombrero!

pre-bar crawl

The future Mr. and Mrs!

Jen's shower and bachelorette party had the BEST theme. Since she is getting married in Mexico, the theme carried through her pre-wedding celebrations. Her shower had amazing Mexican food, decorations and margaritas. Her bachelorette party started with amazing props consisting of mustaches, sombreros, ponchos, and maracas -- which were to much fun to wear while we did a bike bar crawl. It was such a great idea for a big group (30) to all have on these different neon outfits that seemed to fit together. We definitely had a great night! I have never been on a bar crawl where we actually hit 9 bars, but somehow we managed to do that. I really think we need to make this a tradition! Beach Cruisers  + Bars + Best Friends = one amazing weekend! Congratulations again Fetty!

You're Invited..

Sh*t just got real. I know I keep saying that or feeling like that, but I just ordered our wedding invitations yesterday! Now those details we have been gawking over for the past few years have officially been written down on paper (and they are looking very pretty I might add). I really did not have a care in the world about invitations, but I obviously still wanted them to look nice and be reflective of us without breaking the bank. I can't even believe how much some invitations can cost.

This is probably the coolest invitation ever..
Pretty but probably cost and arm and a leg..
Probably cost a ton with all that letterpressing...

This is awesome. And also its from etsy so may be reasonably priced

I also can't believe how many decisions there are to make regarding invitations. I knew I would have to search through which colors or pattern of invitations we wanted, but there is so much more details than even that. To start, I had ordered several samples from a few different online sites. Most places will send you at least 5 samples of your choice for no cost. It really is the best way to go, because I found that the ones I thought were great looking online, didn't look so great in person. When going through the samples, Kyle and I would make a yes, no, maybe pile of the ones we each liked. We literally had the same ones in the same pile and ended up picking the same favorite. So picking our invitations was obviously very easy.

Then came the silly details that I had no idea about, such as what was "formal" or what you're "suppose to do" for invitations. While we haven't been having the "this is what we're suppose to do" mentally for the rest of the wedding planning, for some reason having the invitation scream wedding invite and not just another party invite seemed appropriate. So we had the decisions to make of, rounded or squared cards, folded or flat, rectangle, square or long ways. Do you want lined enveloped, doubled envelopes, return address printed, how do you want the wording, etc, etc, etc. How many decisions can you possibly make?? This was one of those wedding things where I wish someone just made a product, showed it to me, and I could give it the ok, go approval. Needless to say, trying to do all these little details and spelling things correctly all while getting my order in before midnight and the big sale ended (25% off people!), made this feel a little crazy. But they are ordered! (And I kind of love them).

Really cool vineyard wedding invites

Awesome idea, sorry friends- you are not getting a bottle of wine with the invitation :/

simple and very cute

We found invitations that actually went with our colors and the vineyard theme. They are simple yet very pretty and romantic. Perfect for what we are going for. Now who wants to come over and help me address them all??  Less than 3 months!
